Koontz Genealogy

Hello, and welcome to my genealogy pages. Well, there's only one right now, this one, but I hope to add more. Here are some photos and a little bit of history of some of my (and maybe yours too) Koontz ancestors. I'll try to update this page as I get more information.

Robert & Margaret had 11 children: Walter Douglas Sr., James Tilden, Burke Chrisman, Laura Virginia, Elizabeth Jane, Edward Newman, Charles Clayton, William Bruce, Robert Moffet, Mary Catherine, and Abraham Harrison. There was another child, Mae E. who was adopted. Mae is thought to be a Koontz relative who lost her family.

Walter Douglas Sr. & Willa Jane had 2 children: Mabel M. and Walter Douglas, Jr. Mabel was seventeen yrs. when Walter Jr. was born. Their mother, Willa, died about eight months later. It's very likely she died of tuberculosis. Walter Sr. married Hettie J. Rhodes in 1920. Mabel married Dean Thompson and Walter Douglas Jr. married Helen Irene Comer.

Here are a few photos of the Begoon homeplace. Vivian Begoon was the wife of Abraham Harrison Koontz (son of Robert Koontz). Vivian's sister, Grace, was the second wife of Harry C. Cail. Harry's first wife was Mary Catherine Koontz, sister of Walter Douglas Sr and Abraham Harrison. Here's the story as I know it: Harry & Mary Catherine lived in Ohio and had a son, James. Mary Catherine died 10-7-1910 and Harry went back to Virginia several years later to visit Mary's parents, Robert & Margaret Koontz. While he was there he met and married Grace Begoon. This information was given to me by Mary Catherine's granddaughter, Cathy, who "found" me via the internet and a message I had posted on genforum.
